Bangalore, the capital city of Karnataka is located 1000 m above sea level and has a uninterrupted holiday atmosphere. The climate is pleasant all through the year. It is a rapidly growing cosmopolitan city with major industrial and commercial centers.

Places of Interest

Ulsoor Lake

Is an ideal getaway scattered with striking and picturesque islands. This attractive picnic spot is on the north eastern edge of the city centre. Boat rides or a swim in the near by pool are most refreshing. One of Kempegowda’s watch towers is close to the lake.

Lal Bagh Botanical gardens

This garden is by the Lal Bagh Fort Road. The pleasant and outstanding 100 ha Botanical gardens were laid out by Hyderali in 1760 whilst his son Tippu Sultan further added a wealth of rare plants and trees from several countries. It was initially called Lalbagh because the garden had a plethora of red roses.

The glass house, supported on the London Crystal Palace, is a major attraction in the park built in 1881. There are flower displays organized during the week preceding Republic day and the week ahead of Independence Day. The Rose garden is an additional attraction at the Lal Bagh garden. It is located at the heart of the Lal Bagh, closer to the north gate entrance. 150 unusual kinds of roses are grown here.

Cubbon Park

Cubbon park was premeditated by Sir. Richard Sankey, the then chief Engineer of Mysore and named after Sir Mark Cubbon, Bangalore's longest and best serving commissioner. The Attara Kacheri, central library, the aquarium, the Jawahar bal bhavan with its mini theatre and toy train, the museum, VITM and KSLTA tennis court are situated within the expansive cubbon park.

Tipu's Summer Palace

Haidar Ali began the construction of this palace and was completed by Tipu Sultan in 1789. Its construction was similar to that of the Daria Daulat palace of Srirangapatnam. This 2- storied elaborate palace is made out of wood. The walls and ceilings are painted in brilliant bright colors with excellent carvings. The building is now being used to exhibit pictures of Tipu Sultan and his era.

Bull Temple

It is one of the oldest temples in the city and is built by Kempegowda, the founder of Bangalore. This distinctive Dravidian style temple has an enormous, gigantic bull, 15ft high and 20ft long, made of granite, in 1786. It is supposed that it has grown in size since then and now measures almost 5 meters in height and 6 meters in length. The temple is devoted to Nandi, the sacred bull.

Vidhan Soudha

This beautiful building, built between 1954 and 1958, houses the state legislature and secretariat. Another attractive public building, the red brick High court of Karnataka, built in 1885 is on the opposite of the Vidhan soudha.
