It offers breathtaking views of the river Krishna on one side & the coastal plains on the other. The air here is rich in oxygen and the water is believed to contain traces of hemoglobin boosting iron. Panchgani is the classic hill station, with the Raj stamped ineradicably all over it. It can be seen in the architecture of the old British buildings, the Parsi houses, & the boarding schools that have been there for a century or more. The main geographical feature is the table topped plateau (panch = five, gani=plateaus) shaped by flattened volcanic rock from which its name is derived.
Panchgani is often referred to as the 'Mecca of Maharashtra’. Beauty of Panchgani is best enjoyed on a pony ride. The ride through the hamlets, farms and narrow valleys with the gorgeous and lush greens and the river Krishna alongside makes it truly enchanting. It is about 16 km from Mahabaleshwar, situated in the Western Ghats. Panchgani is close to important cities like Mumbai and Pune.
