KODAIKANAL

Located amidst the folds of the lush green Palani Hills in Tamil Nadu, is the tranquil and soothing retreat of Kodaikanal, popularly known as Kodai, fondly referred as the “Princess of Hill Stations” .The resort is, practically, a heaven for trekkers and nature enthusiasts. Along with its other natural attractions is a star - shaped lake, set in a dreamy setting.

Kodai hills were occupied by the ancient tribes of Paliyans and Pulyans in the 14th century and later by the villagers of Palani foothills who fled from the plains to escape the harsh and oppressive rule. The Europeans began exploring the place after Lt. B.S. Ward, who visited Kodai hills in 1821, put forward a report about the exquisiteness and the climate of the place. Developed in the 18th century, the hill station was steadily established by American Madura Mission and British Missionaries who built homes, churches, and schools and initiated and planted new trees to create Kodai what it is today.
