Dalhousie is a quite hill station with a sense of charm and allure attached to it. It spreads over five low-level hills, Kathlog, Potreyn, Tehra, Bakrota and Balun at the western edge of the Dhauladhar range, east of the River Ravi. The gateway to the Chamba Valley, this regal town was established in 1854 by the then British governor-general Lord Dalhousie, covering an area of 14 sq.-km and surrounded by alpine vegetation. Its charming architecture with colonial-era, low roofed stalls, beautiful churches makes it a picturesque town. Its pine-covered slopes with paths and treks are ideal for short refreshing walks.
The beautiful churches of Dalhousie, St. Andrew's Church and St. Patrick's Church at Balun, St. Francis' Church at Subash Chowk and St. John's Church at Gandhi Chowk are a must see.
This place is surrounded by majestic trees; it has its name after Subhash Chandra Bose who spent a serene times mediating during 1937.
This is a breathtaking spot where a small stream feeds a chain of pools. A monument in the memory of the freedom fighter Ajit Singh has been built here.
This palace belongs to the Raja of Chamba; wild varieties of strawberries are seen all along the way.
This Dalhousie cantonment hill was developed as a retreat station for British troops. Barracks are built in Victorian Style and a Brigade Headquarters still exists here. People still prefer to call this place Balun.
